Friday Favorites

I am always on the hunt for new dairy free treats, otherwise I will get into an eating rut.  I normally find at least one new thing to try every time I go grocery shopping.   Over the past couple of weeks I have come across a few goodies that I wanted to share.

So Delicious Coconut Milk Ice Cream Bars
These little bars are heaven sent!  Just the perfect size for a snack, they have the exact same consistency and flavor as dairy ice cream. And they are less than 100 calories! These are definitely going to be a staple in my freezer for a summer treat.

Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter
I have had a serious craving for Nutella recently, probably because my two oldest daughters have been on a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich kick.  These little packs are perfect for me- they are about a dollar a piece and are a great snack size.  I don't think I'll buy a jar of this- it is rather pricey and I don't eat it that often, but I will keep a few packets in the cabinet for travel and quick snacks.

Wholly Guacamole in Snack Size Packs
One of my very favorite snacks is guacamole. But I am the only one in my family that eats it regularly so if I buy a container it usually goes bad.  I love having these in my fridge for wraps- I spread this on a flatbread or tortilla, add some cut up tomatoes, greens, and a little sriracha.  It makes a filling, easy lunch.  These would also be a great item for travel if you're bringing a cooler.

Krusteaz Oatmeal Cookie Mix
My husband and my daughters love oatmeal raisin cookies.  Sometimes there just isn't time to bake from scratch, so it's nice to have mixes in the cabinet.  Unfortunately most cookie mixes contain dairy, and my littlest daughter cannot have them.  Luckily I came across this on our last grocery trip.  While not as good as my homemade oatmeal cookies, they are a great fast option.

Spicy Mango and Jalapeno Sausage
Last week I shared an easy chicken sausage sub idea.  In that meal I used a sweet sausage made with apples and maple syrup.  We tried this one a few days ago and it was delicious!  A little spicy, a little sweet, and  oh so good.  It would work great in a sandwich, but the night we made it we served it with beans and veggies over rice,  very similar to my black beans and rice with andouille sausage recipe.

So there you have it- my favorites for the week.  It's grocery shopping time again so who knows that goodies I'll come home with this week:-)

What are some of your new  favorite dairy free items?

  1. Holy moly - I must find those Chocolate Hazelnut butter packs. I've been missing Nutella quite a bit! I'm dairy-free as well, and have been for about 6 or 7 years, and I seriously miss the Nutella and banana crepes I used to eat.

And did you know that in parts of Spain, a typical after-school snack for kids is Nutella on fresh bread (something like french or italian, not the pre-sliced loaves)? When I was visiting in Spain, I tried it and it was fabulous.

And this may not be new, but I love Amy's No Cheese pizza. It's not the classic tomato-y taste, but downright delicious in its own right.

    1. I missed Nutella too! This is not quite the same but it is close. I want to make my own but I am having a hard time finding hazelnuts where I live. If you want to try Justin's you can find it in the organic aisle of the grocery store.

Have you been to www.alifewithouticecream.com? She has a delicious recipe for mango banana crepes:-)

I also love Amy's pizza-all those veggies:-) But I make my own with daiya cheese or veggie shreds (they have casein though). Have you tried it? It's really good. Pizza is my weakness and I was so happy when I found a replacement:-)
